Platform Submission - MoH - Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026-2036
In April-May 2026 the Ministry of Health ran a public consultation on the Draft Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2026-2036, which will be the government's official strategy for mental health and addiction for the next 10 years.
As part of this, Platform facilitated 2 workshops for MH&A NGO and community providers and 1 workshop for Kaupapa Māori-led providers to provide information on the draft Strategy, facilitate discussion and gather insights to inform feedback on the draft Strategy. The workshops were attended by around 75 members and generated valuable discussions and insights.
Following the workshops, we developed a submission from the information we gathered and shared this with the Ministry of Health. You can read our submission here. Broadly, we called for the Strategy to:
- Include clear commitments to implementation, funding, and accountability
- Treat NGOs and communities as partners in system design, not just delivery
- Embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity as foundational
- Strengthen and broaden prevention and early intervention
- Specify how fragmentation and continuity of care will be improved
- Measure success through outcomes, not outputs.
